History of the Band

The band was formed in the early 1950's as a practice band by a few members of the Palo Alto Unitarian Church.  The original leader was George Jansen. By the late 1950's the band was regularly playing for fund raisers and charitable events through out the San Francisco peninsula and south bay area.  According to Betty Tasker, trumpet player and one of the bands founding members and long time band personnel manager, the name of the band came about partially due to the "corniness" of the band and the original Unitarian Church connection. As the band continued to increase in it's membership it also separated it's ties with the Church and began operating independently.  The bands second leader was George West who provided nearly 40 years of service. In 2000, Mr. West passed the leadership of the band to Ted Marcopulos who serves as Band Manager and Bill Kunz who is the bands Music Director.  Since 1995, Donna Marcopulos has performed the role of Personnel and Event Manager.  A number of original members still play with the band including trumpet players Al Wilson and Bob Mosely. Bob is also the bands music librarian.

There are many more people to talk about, we will continue to gather more detailed information and add it to this section.
